Types of OCD
OCD can take many forms. Some of the common types of OCD are listed below. However, this is not an exhaustive list and these OCD themes cannot really encapsulate the person’s unique experience and the challenges they may be going through.
The good news is that irrespective of the theme or topic your OCD latches on to, the underlying process and the way to tackle it is the same. Once you understand how OCD treatment works, you can apply the same knowledge and skills to any OCD theme.
Common OCD themes
- Disturbing Thoughts. These could include blasphemous, violent or sexual thoughts and images. These are particularly distressing as they do not align with the person’s personality and values.
- Scrupulosity or Religious OCD. The person has obsessions about being morally or religiously correct for example about wudu, prayers, sincerity and so on
