Online Therapy
Online Therapy Sessions for OCD: Practical, convenient and effective!
I have been conducting OCD treatment via Video calls for many years now, alhamdolillah.
Online Video Therapy sessions have not only been incredibly practical and time-efficient, they have actually been very useful for delivering OCD treatment. It helps to see and support clients to re-engage with all kinds of activities in their natural home or work environment.
With Video calls, screen sharing makes it possible to share and work through diagrams and worksheets together. We can watch or refer to relevant video clips, visuals and other resources live during the sessions. All these options enhance our work and make it more effective. It’s useful when doing all kinds of ERP (Exposure & Response prevention) tasks, both to see how the client is doing and also for them to see me when I need to role model doing those tasks.
Online therapy helps overcome issues due to distance, especially if time is limited due to work/childcare commitments, busy schedules. All you need is to make yourself available for those 50 minutes, at a time.
When clients are already stressed because of their OCD, online sessions offer them the comfort of their home, which is quite helpful. Some clients initially want a family member to join in for part of their session, for example to support them or give an additional perspective on their various challenges. For these instances, their family member can easily join just a few minutes and leave whenever the client wants.
Online therapy helps me reach out to far more people suffering from OCD. I am London-based and many clients are outside London or UK, but distance is no more a barrier! Alhamdolillah
While I prefer video calls, in exceptional circumstances, if needed, I do offer Chat-based or telephone sessions.
“Having the sessions on phone from the comfort of my home made it easier for me to open up. I would say to anyone who feels daunted by the idea of going to a new place, telephone counselling is a good first step and a very empowering one.” – A Telephone Client, back in the days when I used to also offer face to face session
